September 11, 2001 was a day that none of us will ever forget. A 9-11 Committee was
formed in Morris Plains to construct a memorial on the corner of Routes 202 and 53. This
memorial will honor the frst responders and innocent people that lost their lives
that fateful day. The committee has secured a piece of steel from the World Trade Center
which will become a focal point for the memorial.

August 21st, 2010:
At 3:25 p.m. Engines 3, Utility 2 responded to Cedar Knolls for a working fire
on Ridgedale Av. Crews assisted the Cedar Knolls fire department with accountability and overhaul of the fire building.
The department also responded with the Morris County Special Services and Air Support Truck.
This was a long day for the Morris Plains fire fighters, prior to the call the department conducted a three hour drill
at a vacant building.

June 14th, 2010 :
Emergency crews spent two hours on Tuesday morning to rescue a frightened fawn that had fallen into a
Sunrise Drive storm drain The deer fell about 10 feet into the drain,
then crawled another 15 feet into the sewer line.
The Morris Plain Fire Department initially tried to get the fawn out of the drain by flushing the sewer
line with a hose from the other side of the pipe, about 250 feet away. That didn't work.
Then, a piece of road department equipment was used to flush the line, which prompted the fawn to move, police said.
Patrolman Jeff Hochman, who had climbed down into the drain with a snare, caught the fawn, which was released into nearby woods.
June 2nd, 2010:
At 4:39pm the Morris Plains Fire Dept. was dispatched to a Homer Ave residence
for a reported structure fire. On arrival Chief's 1 & 2 had a moderate smoke condition with a fire in the kitchen.
Engines 3 & 4, Quint 1, and Utility 2 all responded. The fire was extinguished with a dry chemical fire extinguisher.
Members used a Thermal Imaging Camera (TIC) to check the kitchen area for fire extension.
No further extension of the fire beyond the window curtain area was found. The fire was caused from cooking.
May 29th, 2010:
At 12:11pm the Morris Plains Fire Dept. was dispatched to a Speedwell Ave.
business on a report of a fire. On arrival Chief 1 advised responding units of a heavy smoke condition
in the dining area. Chief 1 requested a re-alert for a working structure fire. Engine 3 and Quint 1 arrived and members stretched a 1-3/4"
handline into the structure.
The fire was found to be in the walls of the business. Members used hand tools and chain saw to open up the walls
and began fire attack. Additional assistance was requested from the Cedar Knolls FD as a RIT team and Fairchild Fire Co. in Morris Twp.
for additional manpower. After the fire was brought under control, the Morris County Prosecutor's office began an investigation
into the cause of the fire.
The Morris Plains Fire Marshal and Morris Plains Police Detective Bureau also assisted with the investigation.
The cause of the fire was determined to be electrical. Old "Knob and Tube" wiring was found and was the cause of the fire.

At 5:25 a.m. the Morris
Plains Fire Department was dispatched for mutual aid into
Morristown for a working house fire. The department responded with the
Morris County Special Services and Air Support Truck.

May 7th, 2010:
At 5:10 p.m. the MPFD
responded with Q-1,U-2 into Morris Township for a mutual
aid request. While the township was at a structure fire
on Morris Place members covered the Fairchild fire
house. The department also responded with the Morris
County Special Services Truck and assisted with their
SCBA refills.
May 2nd, 2010:
At 22:34 The Morris Plains
Fire Dept. was Dispatched to a Hawthorne Ave residence
for a report of a fire in the bedroom. On arrival Chief
2 reported heavy smoke and requested a re-alert. E-3,
E-4, Q-1,U-2, and Chief 3 responded along with the
Morris Minutemen FAS and the Cedar Knolls FD for FAST
assignment. Members stretched a handline to the 2nd
floor bedroom and began fire suppression. Fire was found
in a 2nd floor closet and attic area. The fire was
quickly knocked down with minimal structural damage. The
fire cause was investigated by the Morris Plains Fire
Marshal and the Morris Plains Police. Units cleared at

April 5th, 2010:
At 10:15 a.m. the Morris
Plains Fire Department was dispatched to Davis Avenue
for a garbage truck fire. There was heavy damage to the
truck. Morris County Hazmat and Whippany Fire Department
Hazmat responded.
March 16th, 2010:
The Morris Plains Fire
Department and the Cedar Knolls Fire Department
responded to a reported fire on Foxwood Drive at 8:55
p.m. Upon arrival the MPFD found the building to be
smoke-filled and one room on fire. The MPFD quickly
extinguished the blaze preventing any serious damage.
The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental
due to an electric fan. Foxwood Drive was closed for
approximately one hour while personnel were on the
scene.
February 26th,
2010:
At 9:15 p.m. the Morris
Plains Fire Department was dispatched to a Forest Av
home for a Chimney fire. There was no damage to the
home. There was eight inches of snow with high winds at
the time.
February 12th,
2010:
At 7:15 a.m. the Morris
Plains Fire Department was dispatched for mutual aid to
Morris Township. The department responded with the
Morris County Special Services and Air Support Truck.
January 15th,
2010:
The Morris Plains Fire
Department responded to an American Road business at
2:45 p.m. for a reported fire. At the scene a
large piece of machinery was determined to be on
fire.
December 23th,
2009:
The Morris Plains Fire
Department responded to a Glenbrook Road residence at
6:22 a.m. for a reported fire. Upon arrival a chimney
fire was located in the home. Only minor damage to the
home was reported.
